I.What are the steps for self-service online check-in? How do I check-in online?

Answer: Log onto www.ceair.com, and enter your name, identification card number and mobile phone number where prompted in the “online check-in” area, which is on the right side of the China Eastern homepage. The three steps in the online check-in process are to: a. select the flight for check-in; b. select a seat; c. print the boarding pass using A4 paper (you can directly enter airport security and board your flight with this boarding pass).

II.Which passengers can check-in online?

Answer: Only adult travellers with no special requirements may use the online check-in service. Passengers with VIP status or special meal requirements, and those who are sick, injured, disabled revolutionary servicemen and police, wheelchair- or stretcher-bound, pregnant, CBBG unaccompanied elderly, may not use this service and must check-in with China Eastern at the airport. At present, China Eastern online check-in is not available for the abovementioned special travellers. Additionally, China Eastern cannot check infants or children less than 12 years of age in online. Therefore, we request that adults travelling with infants or children do not check-in online.

III.Passengers holding which kinds of tickets are allowed to check-in online?

Answer: China Eastern passengers holding electronic ticket may check-in online. Those with paper tickets are not eligible to check-in online.

IV.Which class can choose self-service online check-in?

Answer: At present, the online check-in is applicable for all classes of electronic tickets holders .

V.Is self-service online check-in available for all the airports?

Answer: At present, China Eastern online check-in is only available in certain cities. Please refer to Cities with Eastern self-service online check-in for more details.

VI.Can I choose self-service online check-in if I have check-in baggage?

Answer: Yes, but please present your check-in bags at the China Eastern self-service boarding service or check-in counters at the airport at least one hour in advance. Any baggage larger than 20cm×40cm×55cm or heavier than 5 kilograms must be checked in. All checked baggage must comply with relevant security regulation. Alcoholic beverages, knives, dangerous tools, etc. must be checked. Bags holding valuables, travel documents, fragile items, flammable substances, explosives, corrosives and other hazardous materials may not be checked. VII.Can I check-in online immediately after the purchase of the ticket?

Answer: No, you must wait to check-in until the online check-in is open. The opening time varies for each airport. Please refer to The check-in opening times for cities with online check-in for details

VIII.How can I complete self-service online check-in if my electronic ticket was not purchased from the China Eastern web site?

Answer: Please enter the passenger’s name, ID number and mobile phone number and then complete check-in according to the directions provided on the China Eastern web site.

IX.When should passengers who have checked in online enter the airport security inspection area?

Answer: passengers should enter the security checkpoint at least 40 minutes before the scheduled departure time of the flight. If the passenger fails to complete the security inspection 40 minutes before the scheduled departure time, or if the passenger fails to board 15 minutes before departure, the flight will depart according to the scheduled departure time and the passenger will be responsible for missing the flight.

X.How can I cancel online check-in?

Answer: you can cancel online or call the China Eastern service hot line 95530. For a telephone number in a specific city, please refer to Service hotline of cities with online check-in.

XI.How can I print the boarding pass if there is no printer at my home?

Answer: you can print it at the airport at the China Eastern self-service boarding service counters or check-in counters with any valid form of identification.

XII.What can I do if I lose a printed boarding pass?

Answer: you can reprint it at any of China Eastern’s self-service boarding service or check-in counters with a valid form of identification.

XIII.What kind of paper can be used to print the boarding pass?

Answer: standard A4 paper can be used to print the boarding pass. Boarding passes printed on paper of any other size or consistency will not be accepted.

XIV.Why can’t I print the boarding pass?

Answer: It may be due to computer software, Internet or printer problems. Please finish checking in online and then you can print the boarding pass at the airport. After arriving, proceed to a China Eastern self-service boarding service counter or China Eastern check-in counter with valid identification at least 45 minutes before the scheduled departure time.

XV.Where can I get a reimbursement voucher for an electronic ticket?

Answer: If you buy the ticket from a travel agent, please ask the agency for a reimbursement voucher; if you book the ticket on the China Eastern website; please go to the office for electronic ticket reimbursement vouchers at the airport. (A reimbursement voucher for electronic tickets can only be printed once, and cannot be printed seven days or more after the departure date).

XVI.Can I pass the security inspection directly and board with my printed boarding pass if I have no check-in baggage?

Answer: Yes, but it is recommended that you confirm the boarding gate at the China Eastern self-service boarding service counter or China Eastern check-in counter before entering the security inspection check point. You can also confirm the boarding gate by the electronic flight information display monitor after going through security.

XVII.What should I do if the online check-in process fails?

Answer: You can try to check-in online again, or you may, with valid identification, print the boarding pass at a China Eastern self-service boarding service counter or Eastern check-in counter at the airport.

XVIII.Why is the boarding gate on the boarding pass “pending”?

Answer: Because the transaction time of online check-in is relatively early, and the boarding gate has not yet been assigned. Please confirm the boarding gate at the airport by looking at the flight information display monitor or by inquiring with China Eastern staff.

XIX.Can I complete online check-in for my friend?

Answer: Yes, please enter the traveller’s name, identification card number and mobile phone number; transact check-in according to direction provided on the China Eastern web site.

XX.Is the web page of Eastern self-service check-in applicable for the check-in of more than one traveller at the same time?

Answer: No. You must enter each traveller’s name, ID number and mobile phone number separately.

XXI. Can I choose online check-in in the case that my name includes both Chinese characters and English letters?

Answer: No. For example, you can’t check-in online if your name is “柯SHEN”. You must check-in at the China Eastern check-in counter.
